HISTORY OF HERBAL MEDICINE
Eastern herbs are time tested well beyond western pharmaceuticals. With Traditional Chinese Medicine, whole herbs are used which allows better balancing with less side effects, whereas biomedical medicine typically uses extracts for replication. Eastern Medicine is based on an individual’s pattern and constitution. An herbal formula may consist of 4-12 separate herbs. The selection of combined herbals are used in a way to nourish the organ of interest, reduce toxicity, and harmonize the body treating the root care rather than only treating or masking symptoms
TYPES OF HERBAL PRESCRIPTIONS
- Granule – powdered herbal concentrates which patient mixes with only a small amount of water to dissolve. Dosage can be twice a day or more depending on physician recommendation.
- Pills- pre-made Formulas or Encapsulated from Customized prepared formula, easy to take
- Tinctures- usually soluble plant constituents in a solvent such as alcohol or glycerin
- Raw Herbs- whole herb, can come prepared and ready to take
DE-STRESS
Sleep is sacred, have a wind-down ritual before actual bedtime

Eat whole foods, limit caffeine, no processed sugar, no processed foods
Limit phone/media by setting a curfew in the evening and limiting daily use to only what is essential
Find nature and connect to the smells, sounds, textures, and the feelings it evokes
TONGUE EXAM AND DIAGNOSIS
Tongue diagnosis is one of the primary methods for assessing what is actually happening in the body. During a telehealth visit, it is very important to assess many aspects of the tongue. The coating on the tongue reflects the actual quality of the digestive system. Specific locations correspond to different organs of the body. The color of the tongue signifies if there is heat or stagnation throughout organs or meridians of the body. Teethmarks and excess coating reveal deficiency or excess of vital energy. All of this well be included in the exam , with a full history , and health intake assessment.
Tongue Diagnosis has been used for centuries and originated in Asia. Traditional Chinese Medicine’s principles reveal that using this technique by a trained practitioner can provide a greater understanding of one’s health thereby allowing proper treatment recommendations.
